Punches don’t stack with discounts. Punches are a reward, so anything already discounted doesn’t earn them:
- An order with a discount, coupon, or Holiday Gift Certificate earns no punches. The Hero Discount still earns.
- Already-discounted items don’t earn: kids menu items, “additional” pints and cookie sandwiches, and items in a bundle after the first.
What earns
- Scoops, sundaes, and shakes: 1 punch each. On IceCream-O-Meter days these are multiplied, based on the weather at the shop where you buy.
- Rain: Rain after 10 AM turns on 2×. Rain before 7 PM keeps it on until 7 PM. If it’s still raining at 7 PM, or starts raining later, 2× stays on until close.
- Full-price pints, pies, cakes, and cookie sandwiches: 1 punch each, never multiplied in the shop. A Pint Pair or a bundle earns 1.
- Trivia: 1 punch for a correct answer, every time, even on a discounted order. Never multiplied.
Order ahead in the app
Order online through the Josh & John’s app and your order earns punches, just like ordering at the counter. Pints ordered in the app even earn IceCream-O-Meter bonuses. At checkout, use the phone number you signed in to the app with.
Online orders placed without the app, and orders through delivery apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub, don’t earn punches.
What doesn’t earn
Toppings, add-ons, upcharges, root beer, growlers, merchandise, gift card purchases, and house account orders.
Punch check
After every visit, we double-check your punches against these rules, so your total may update a minute or two after you pay. If the register missed something, we add it. If it counted something that doesn’t earn, we take it off.
Good to know
- Give your phone number at checkout, or pay with your Purple Mountain Pass, to earn.
- New members get 2 punches when they join.
- The Scoop Bus doesn’t earn punches.
- The free cone you redeem with a reward doesn’t earn a punch, but the rest of that order does.
- Refunded items lose the punches they earned.
- 15 punches = a free regular cone. Rules may change.
